What Is the Rounded Paddle?
The Rounded Paddle replaces the standard flat-edged paddle with one that has a contoured, rounded leading edge. Where a standard paddle presents a blunt face to the flow — creating maximum drag and sharp corners that catch debris — the Rounded Paddle's profile allows fluid to transition smoothly around the paddle body.
This makes it the preferred choice for wastewater, pulp & paper, food processing, and any application where the process fluid carries solids, fibers, or particulate that could foul a standard paddle.
Key Features
Reduced Drag Forces
The contoured leading edge of the Rounded Paddle presents a streamlined profile to the flow, reducing the drag force on the stem and switch mechanism. This lowers the actuation set point and extends the mechanical life of the switch in sustained high-velocity service.
Snag & Debris Resistance
Standard square-cornered paddles can catch fibrous material, rags, or particulate debris at the corners — wrapping it around the stem and causing false trips or mechanical binding. The rounded profile eliminates these catch points, allowing debris to pass cleanly around the paddle.
Stable Actuation
By reducing turbulent wake formation behind the paddle, the rounded profile produces a more stable, consistent force on the switch mechanism. This translates to a cleaner, more repeatable switching action — particularly important in applications where false trips are costly.
Broad Compatibility
Available on all PEECO N, E, and H Series models. Can be combined with the Paddle Shroud for applications that require both structural reinforcement and the aerodynamic benefits of the rounded profile.
Typical Applications
Wastewater & sewage treatment
Pulp & paper process lines
Food & beverage with particulate slurries
Mining & mineral processing
High-velocity cooling water circuits
Chemical lines with suspended solids
Combine with the Paddle Shroud
For high-velocity applications that also involve structural stress on the stem, specify the Rounded Paddle together with the Paddle Shroud. The shroud provides mechanical reinforcement while the rounded profile handles drag reduction and debris resistance.
